What the search trend actually shows

Houzz’s 2026 Emerging Summer Trends Report identifies increased U.S. searches for scalloped and wave tile. Its comparison covers January–March 2026 versus the same months in 2025. This is interest on one design platform, not proof that those tiles dominate installations in Houston.

Give the pattern a defined place

For your Houston kitchen or bathroom, begin with one surface: behind a vanity, along a backsplash or in another carefully chosen wall area. A smaller zone lets you explore the shape without asking every finish in the room to compete.

Look at the pattern from the doorway as well as close up. A texture you love in a sample may read differently across a whole wall. Compare it with the countertop and cabinet front so you can decide whether the tile should lead or simply add a little movement.

Think about edges, cuts and grout

Ask to discuss where the pattern starts and ends, how it meets mirrors or cabinets and what happens at corners. Curved shapes can make those transitions especially visible. A layout conversation before installation helps turn a collection of individual pieces into a deliberate composition.

Grout color is part of the design decision: compare a close match with a more contrasting option using real samples. Ask about the product’s intended use and care instructions. A tile shown on a wall should not be assumed appropriate for a floor or another application.

  • Photograph the entire wall and its corners.
  • Measure the area and note outlets or fixtures.
  • Bring a physical tile sample and grout options.
  • Ask how exposed edges and transitions will be finished.
  • Discuss the condition and preparation of the existing surface.

Balance a trend with what you will enjoy

If you prefer a quiet room, a small accent and restrained color may be enough. If pattern is the main feature you want, keep surrounding finishes simpler. Neither choice requires copying an entire inspiration photo.
